Teams from Tipperary, Cork, Limerick, Kildare, Cavan, Cork and Dublin triumphed in the First National Championship of the F1 in Schools: Formula One Technology Challenge.
The first prize - which includes a trip to the Honda F1 Team Operation Centre in UK and €5,000 of IT equipment for their school - was claimed by the Blade of Fire team from St Ailbe's School, Tipperary.
Congratulations to winning team members Stephen Quinn, Anthony Power, Siobhan Daly, Stephanie Tracey, and Pat Noonan, and to their teacher Sean Fitzpatrick.

18 teams from 12 second-level schools from around the country were judged on a range of criteria including car design and speed, a verbal presentation and a visual display. Other elements include marketing, engineering, team website and sponsorship generated locally by the team.

The Formula 1 in schools Technology Challenge, sponsored by Universal Honda, is organised by Irish Computer Society (ICS) and designed by Cadpo Europe. Formula 1 in Schools is part of an international competition that now attracts more than 45,000 students across the world.

Next year, the winning Irish car may also be eligible to race in the International finals due to be held in Melbourne, Australia. This year’s Global winners received stunning prizes including The Bernie Ecclestone Trophy and three-year full scholarships to study Motorsport and Automotive Engineering at City University London.
