The competition was fast and furious at the trackside on National Finals Race Day, as the teams went head-to-head, reaching speeds of up to 110kmph.

Competing teams were also judged on the quality of their engineering, marketing, graphic design and resource management portfolios, fund-raising activities and on a verbal presentation of their work.

"The Honda Motor Company has a proven record for investing in the technology of the future. Our sponsorship of this event gives Irish students the opportunity to integrate their engineering and innovative skills on the international stage in a creative and constructive way."
Adrian Cole, MD of Universal Honda

Team Koni Kats now goes on to represent Ireland at the World Championships in 2009. Before then, they have a trip to Honda F1 Team Operation Centre in the UK to look forward to.

"Witnessing the incredible effort and enthusiasm that has been put into the development of these model Formula 1 cars is inspiring. Every year we run this programme it just keeps getting better and better. Well done pupils and teachers!"
Jim Friars, CEO of the Irish Computer Society (ICS)
